Help:Creating an article
Appearance
A new article should explain a relevant subject in a neutral, verifiable and understandable way. Start at the article wizard to create a personal draft with a preloaded outline.
Before drafting
- Search the wiki and check alternative spellings or broader topics.
- Choose a title used by reliable sources; avoid promotional labels and unnecessary abbreviations.
- Check that several trustworthy sources provide enough material for an article. Independent coverage is important for topics such as companies, products or people.
- Decide the article's intended scope and prepare an outline.
- Read the actual sources. A search-result snippet or AI-generated summary is not sufficient verification.
During drafting
- Write the definition and lead first.
- Distinguish demonstrated capabilities from research proposals and marketing claims.
- Prefer precise dates, model editions and standard numbers supported by the source.
- Explain technical jargon on first use.
- Cite factual, numerical and potentially disputed claims near the relevant text.
- Use original phrasing and do not copy tables, figures, or substantial passages without permission.
- State important limitations and uncertainties where supported by sources.
