Robot Safety Risk Assessment the identification, estimation and reduction of hazards associated with robotic systems and applications. [1]
Hazards and use conditions
Assessment considers the robot, end-effector, workpiece, human exposure, operating modes, foreseeable misuse, maintenance and the surrounding workplace. A safety analysis is specific to its application, not solely its hardware model.
Risk-reduction measures
Measures may include inherently safer design, limiting accessible hazardous energy, protective devices, safe motion functions, instructions and training. Their selection depends on applicable standards and qualified engineering review. [2]
Standards relationship
ISO 10218-1:2025 addresses industrial robot requirements; ISO 10218-2:2025 addresses industrial robot applications and cells. ISO/TS 15066:2016 provides additional material for collaborative industrial robot systems. [3]
Limits
An encyclopedia cannot certify a design or determine compliance for a particular installation. The actual standards, law, manufacturer instructions and qualified assessors govern real projects.
