W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model v2.0 a W3C Recommendation specifying a data model for interoperable verifiable credentials. [1]
Publication
W3C published Verifiable Credentials Data Model v2.0 as a Recommendation on 15 May 2025. The model describes claims expressed by an issuer and verification by other parties.
Participants
The architecture distinguishes issuers, holders and verifiers. A credential can be secured against tampering and verified according to the chosen mechanisms and trust assumptions. [2]
Potential machine use
Claims can concern non-human subjects in suitable ecosystems; examples in robotics or supply chains require a defined issuer trust model and appropriate data semantics. The specification does not automatically establish device authenticity.
Privacy and limitations
Credential validity is not identical to the truth of every underlying claim. Implementations must consider issuance processes, key compromise, status checking, data minimization and revocation.
