Robot Operating System 2 an open robotics software framework that supports distributed components, communication, tools and libraries. [1]
Architecture
ROS 2 structures many robotic systems around nodes exchanging messages, services and actions. It commonly uses DDS-based middleware, although supported communication choices and deployment architectures vary.
Robot-development workflow
ROS 2 can connect sensing, localization, navigation, manipulation and simulation components. Packages are assembled for a particular robot; installing a framework does not provide safe autonomy by itself. [2]
Security considerations
Where supported and enabled, DDS security capabilities can help restrict communication. Deployment also requires secure host configuration, credential management, update procedures and testing. [3]
Versioning
ROS 2 distributions differ in support status, API details and platform compatibility. Documentation for a specific distribution should be consulted for current commands and security configuration.
