Robot identity management concerns how identifiers, ownership records, credentials and permissions for robotic equipment are created, maintained and retired. It is a specialized application of broader device and machine identity practices, not a universal standalone identification standard. [1]

Lifecycle

A typical lifecycle includes enrollment, assigning identifiers, credential provisioning, authorization policy, rotation, incident response, revocation and decommissioning. Fleet management may track each robot and its embedded components separately. [2]

Trust boundaries

Robots can interact with cloud services, workers, industrial controllers and peer devices. Authentication identifies a communications endpoint under a trust model, while authorization and operational safety govern what it may do. [3]

Security design

Secure key handling, access logs, update integrity and recovery processes reduce avoidable risks. NIST’s zero trust and IoT cybersecurity publications provide related guidance, but neither establishes a mandatory worldwide robot identity registry. [4]
