Robot Dataset Documentation practices for describing the source, structure, permitted uses and limitations of data used in robotics research. [1]
What documentation covers
Useful records describe sensor modalities, robot model and firmware, coordinate frames, sampling rates, timestamps, task definitions, labeling methods and data collection environments. A dataset should identify missing or excluded observations.
Provenance and permissions
Provenance records who collected a dataset, how it was obtained and which licenses or agreements apply. When demonstrations include people, workplaces or personal information, privacy and consent require particular attention. [2]
Measurement quality
Robot logs can include latency, dropped sensor frames, clock drift, controller overrides and unsuccessful episodes. These details affect reproducibility and interpretation of training results.
Limits of transfer
Data collected with one embodiment, safety envelope or object distribution may not be representative of another. Dataset documentation supports responsible reuse but does not by itself validate model performance.
