Human–robot interaction (HRI) studies how people and robots exchange information, coordinate tasks and share environments. It draws on robotics, human factors, computer science, psychology and design. [1]
Interaction methods
A robot may use speech, displays, lights, sounds, gestures, remote controls or physical movement to express its state. Humans may provide instructions through software interfaces, physical demonstration or supervised task planning. [2]
Shared-space safety
Robots used near people require analysis of intended contact, foreseeable misuse, operating speeds and protective systems. Industrial and personal-care safety standards address different application contexts and should not be treated as interchangeable. [3]
Trust and usability
A friendly appearance can cause users to overestimate robot capabilities. Clear limits, understandable status information and methods for intervention can support more appropriate human oversight. [4]
